Week beginning 12th March

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a busy and exciting week in Year 1. The children thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this week. They also loved meeting Ranger Russ and had great fun dancing the afternoon away at the disco on Friday!

The Week Ahead

In Literacy, we will be reading the book ‘Webster’s Bedtime’ by Hannah Whaley. The story is about Webster’s efforts to get all his electronic gadgets to sleep, before he is able to go to bed. We will use the ideas from this story to help us to write our own poems about electronic gadgets.

In Maths, we will be continuing our unit on place value. In particular, we will focus on counting in 5s. We will be using a 1-50 number grid to spot and discuss patterns that emerge when counting in 5s. The children will also complete related problem solving and reasoning tasks.

In our IPC lessons, we will be working with Bee-Bots (floor robots). The children will work in groups, programming the Bee-Bots to navigate a specific route.
