Week beginning 9th July

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a productive week in Year 1. The highlight of our week was watching the Year 2 Mini Strings Concert on Monday. The Year 2 children put on a wonderful performance and the Year 1s are really looking forward to learning to play these instruments next year!

We are really looking forward to our trip to Brighton Sea Life on Wednesday. Please remember to put sun cream on the children before school. We would also like everyone to wear a sun hat. The children will need to bring a packed lunch and a bottle of water on the trip. If possible, please pack their lunch in a disposable bag or container. Please could you also ensure your child’s name is on their packed lunch? We will be departing school at 8:30am and should be back at school by 4pm.

The Week Ahead

In Literacy, we will be reading ‘Tiddler’ by Julia Donaldson. The children will be thinking of their own excuses for being late for school, and acting out and writing about Tiddler’s adventure whilst riding on a sea-horse!

In Maths, we will be learning about money. The children will work on recognising the value of different denominations of coins. They will also use their knowledge of place value to match coins with equivalent values. E.g. five 1 pence coins is equivalent to one 5 pence coin.

The link below will take you to a game called ‘Toy Shop Money’. The children can count out the correct amount of money to pay for various items. There is a ‘mixed coin’ button which will provide a bit more of a challenge.

In IPC we will finish making our model boats. If you have any toilet rolls, fruit punnets, milk bottles, egg boxes or other materials we could use, please send them to school.

Thank you for your continued support.
