w/b 21st January 2019

What a fantastic week last week the children have all been writing some fantastic persuasive letters to Lazlo which are going to be displayed in the school corridor.

In English this week we are learning through the text ‘The diary of a Killer Cat’ where the children will be discussing and writing a diary in the first person as the Killer Cat!

In maths we are learning about Statistics. Over the next few weeks the children will be able to

  • interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and tables
  • ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity
  • ask-and-answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data

See the above game to help consolidate the children’s learning.

In IPC we are learning about People of the Past where we will be focusing on an influential person from history each week. Last week the children enjoyed learning about Mary Seacole. This week they will be doing some art in the style of Leonardo D’Vinci.

We are continuing to have mini strings on a Monday morning and PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon and a Friday morning (weather permitting). Please can all children have PE kits left at school as we sometimes may use them outside of these days. We will return at the end of each term for a wash. Can we also ensure that the children have tracksuit bottoms and a jumper for outdoor PE.

Please continue to do the homework from the homework menu  and ask the children to bring their books in each Monday for marking.  Please also continue to read with the children each night and document this is their yellow reading records. Finally, please practice the spellings which we will test each week (usually on a Monday) and the children can also practice their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.  There is a good game which is tablet friendly:

Many Thanks,

The Year 2 Team
